The 2019 Kia Sportage has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: a brake control module that can short-circuit and ignite a fire in the engine compartment, and a tow hitch wiring harness that can catch fire while parked or driving.
The tow hitch recall only affects vehicles equipped with a hitch harness installed at the factory or added through a Kia dealership. On the engine side, the engine control module may fail to detect early warning signs of engine trouble, allowing the engine to fail without notice and leave the vehicle unable to restart, which raises the risk of a crash.
