The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the mild-hybrid electrical system, where an overload can short-circuit the DC-to-DC converter, creating a risk of overheating, smoke, and fire, and separately causing sudden loss of drive power.
These two electrical issues apply to the mild-hybrid variant of this vehicle. A software update addresses the overload and short-circuit risk, while the loss of drive power stems from the same 48-volt system failing under load. On the safety equipment side, the rear seat belt retractors can deactivate their automatic locking function too early, preventing a child safety seat from being held securely during a crash. There is also a software fault in the instrument cluster that can cause the speedometer and odometer to randomly switch between miles per hour and kilometers per hour without any input from the driver, which can lead to confusion about actual speed.
