The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the mild-hybrid electrical system, where a voltage overload can cause the DC-to-DC converter to short-circuit, creating a risk of fire or a sudden loss of drive power.

This electrical issue appears across multiple filings covering the same underlying defect: an overload in the 48-volt system can cause a transistor failure and short-circuit in the converter, which may produce overheating and smoke. In some cases, the battery warning light will illuminate before conditions worsen, but loss of propulsion can also occur without warning, raising crash risk. On the restraint side, the seat belt retractors in the rear seating positions can deactivate their automatic locking function earlier than intended, which means a child safety seat may not be held firmly in place during a crash even when installed correctly. There is also a software issue affecting the instrument cluster: a coding error can cause the speedometer and odometer to randomly switch between miles per hour and kilometers per hour without the driver making any input, which can lead to confusion about actual vehicle speed and contribute to unintended speeding.
