These airbag recalls affect vehicles in high-humidity regions including coastal and southern U.S. states and territories, where prolonged heat and moisture cause the propellant inside the inflator to degrade over time. Prior repair attempts have not fully resolved the issue for all affected vehicles, which is why multiple campaigns remain open. The fourth recall involves the anti-lock brake system: valves inside the hydraulic control unit can corrode when exposed to certain brake fluid additives and fail to close fully, which means the brake pedal may travel further than normal before the vehicle slows, extending stopping distances.
