32 recalls across 5 model years
The Lucid Air has 32 recalls covering 2022 through 2026 model years, with the most serious being a pattern of sudden drive power loss across multiple systems on 2022–2024 vehicles that can leave the car unable to accelerate while in traffic, raising the risk of a crash.
The power-loss issues span several distinct causes across the early production years. On 2022–2023 models, a software fault in the high-voltage interlock system can open the battery contactors while driving, cutting power to the motors. Separate from that, the contactors themselves can open unexpectedly on 2022 models due to intermittent high-voltage connection loss, and the inverter power module can fail on 2022 vehicles, shutting down the drive motor without warning. Software versions 2.0.64 and older on 2022–2023 vehicles also fail to handle inverter failures gracefully, resulting in unwarned power loss. On 2022–2024 models, a fault while adaptive cruise control is active can trigger a sudden loss of drive power. Also on 2022 models, a floor mat sold as a Lucid accessory can trap the accelerator pedal, preventing the vehicle from slowing when the driver lifts off.
The 2024–2026 Pure Rear-Wheel Drive trim has its own drivetrain concern: improperly secured bolts can allow the half-shaft to separate from the drive unit, causing an abrupt loss of drive power. The 2024–2025 Pure RWD models also have a rear subframe wiring harness that can be too short, straining the connection to the rear drive unit until it fails entirely.
On the 2022 model specifically, a snap ring beneath the front strut damper can fail, causing a sudden drop in ride height or damaging the front brake line, which can result in reduced or lost braking. The 2022 front tow eye bracket can detach from the subframe during towing, potentially separating the vehicle from the tow truck.
Rear seat heaters on 2022–2023 models can lose temperature monitoring and overheat, creating a burn risk. Windshield wiper arm nuts can loosen on 2022–2023 vehicles, causing the wipers to slip or stop clearing the glass. The high-voltage coolant heater can fail to defrost the windshield on 2022–2024 models, reducing forward visibility. On 2022 models, display wiring can contact the steering shaft and disable the speedometer, gear indicators, and warning lights, and a separate wiring harness issue can knock out all display screens entirely.
Rearview camera failures appear across several software generations. On 2022–2026 vehicles with the AD02 package running software versions 2.8.0 through 2.8.16, the camera image may not appear when reversing. On 2022–2025 models running software prior to 2.8.0, the lower console display can show a delayed or inaccurate image. Earlier software versions on 2022–2023 models caused the camera to fail entirely. The 2022 DreamDrive Pro-equipped vehicles had a separate software issue that could blank the camera and display an error message instead.
