2017 MASERATI GHIBLI Recalls Canada & USA – Major League Recalls
2017 MASERATI GHIBLI Recalls — Canada & USA
Summary
The 2017 Maserati Ghibli has 3 recalls, the most serious being an engine control module software error that can unexpectedly shift the car into neutral or park, or cut the engine entirely while the vehicle is moving.
On the drivetrain side, the rear differential pinion nut may not have been fully tightened, and if it works loose, the differential can develop noise, vibration, and a fluid leak that shortens gear and bearing life. There is also a tire concern: certain Pirelli P Zero All Season tires in size 275/40R19 can develop cracks in the lower sidewall, leading to air loss and potential tire failure while driving.
On certain vehicles, the engine control module software may put the vehicles in neutral or park or shut the engine off when moving at low speeds. Depending on traffic conditions, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
On certain vehicles, the rear differential unit pinion nut may not have been tightened correctly during manufacturing. If the pinion nut loosens, it could cause noise, vibration, reduced gear and bearing life, and a differential fluid leak at the pinion seal. In the worst case, the rear wheels could lock up while the vehicle is in motion, causing a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will check the torque of the rear differential unit pinion nut and, if necessary, replace the rear differential unit.
Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2017 Ghibli and Quattroporte vehicles and one model year 2016 Ghibli vehicle manufactured February 29, 2016, to October 29, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with certain Pirelli P Zero All Season tires, size 275/40R19 101W, that may develop cracks in their lower sidewall, possibly resulting in a loss of air.
Safety Risk
A loss of air may result in tire failure or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected tires, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2016. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 324.
