The 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo has two recalls, both involving the windshield frame structure: missing sealant on the frame studs and insufficient frame bonding can allow the windshield frame to detach in a crash, leaving the roof without adequate support to protect occupants. Both issues affect the same part of the car. Without the stud sealant properly securing the frame to the body, the roof loses structural strength, and if the frame bonding is also insufficient, the entire windshield frame can pull away during a collision, significantly raising the risk of injury.

Defect

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2023 MC20 Cielo vehicles. The windshield frame stud sealant, which retains the stud connecting the windshield frame to the body, may not have been installed, which can reduce body structure performance and roof strength. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 216, "Roof Crush Resistance" and 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Safety Risk

A body structure that does not perform as intended and a roof with insufficient strength may not adequately protect occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the windshield frame mounting stud and install sealant, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 24, 2023. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 662.
