The 2002 Mazda MPV has 4 recalls, the most serious involving throttle icing that can occur in cold weather on vehicles that previously had their PCV hose replaced under an earlier emissions recall.

If that earlier hose replacement was performed with the hose routed incorrectly, moisture can collect inside it and freeze while the van sits parked overnight. When the engine is started in cold conditions, that ice can restrict airflow through the throttle, potentially causing rough running or stalling. The remaining recalls are labeling issues. The airbag warning labels on the sun visors are printed in English only, which means non-English-reading occupants may not receive complete safety guidance about the airbag system. Two separate filings address the same certification label problem: the sticker on the vehicle lists an incorrect gross axle weight rating, which is the maximum load the front and rear axles are each rated to carry. An owner relying on that figure to judge how much cargo or passengers the van can safely handle could inadvertently overload an axle.
