The 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC63S has 3 recalls, with the two most serious involving crash protection: the front passenger airbag can deploy late in a collision, and the seatbelt pretensioners along with the PRE-SAFE system may fail to activate at all.
The delayed airbag deployment affects unbelted front seat passengers specifically, meaning the bag may not reach full inflation at the moment of impact when it is needed most. The pretensioner issue is separate: in a crash, the system that cinches the seatbelt tight against the occupant and the preparatory tensioning that PRE-SAFE triggers before impact may both fail to fire, leaving the occupant with a slack belt and no pre-bracing. There is also a concern with the passenger seat occupancy sensor, which can misread the seat status and display the passenger airbag as active when it is actually switched off, giving the front passenger a false sense of protection if the seat is occupied.
