The 2017 Mercedes-Benz B 250e has 3 recalls, the most serious being an airbag that can deploy without warning and a steering shaft universal joint that can separate and cause complete loss of steering control.
On the steering side, the shaft's bore hole can allow excessive movement over time until the universal joint bearing breaks free entirely, leaving the driver unable to steer. The airbag concern involves the driver's frontal airbag deploying on its own, which raises the risk of injury and could cause a crash. There is also a concern with the automatic crash notification system: if the vehicle is in a collision, the eCall system may send emergency responders to the wrong location, delaying assistance when it is needed most.
