Summary
The Mercedes-Benz E 350 has 8 recalls spanning 2019 through 2024, with the most serious recent issues affecting 2024 models where a transmission wiring harness routed too close to the driveshaft can wear through and cut drive power, and where improperly secured electrical ground connections can overheat and start a fire.
The 2024 model year also has a software error in the infotainment system that can disable the automatic emergency braking function, including the cross-traffic braking feature that normally applies the brakes when a vehicle crosses your path. Going back one year, 2023 models have a software fault in the blind-spot system where the exit warning fails to produce any audio or visual alert when a vehicle is approaching, leaving occupants unaware before opening a door. The 2021 model year has two separate restraint-related issues: the front passenger seat may be missing a mechanical limit stop, allowing it to slide outside the correct range relative to the airbag and raising the risk of injury if the airbag deploys, and rear seatbelt retractors can deactivate too early, preventing a child safety seat from latching securely. That same year, the parking control unit can fail to show the rearview camera image and cause parking sensors to miss or misread nearby objects while reversing. The seatbelt retractor issue also extends into 2022 production. On 2019-2021 models, the passenger seat limit stop concern similarly applies to AMG E53 trims, and the 2020 model year has a separate engine concern where loose screws on the turbocharger oil lines can allow oil to drip onto hot engine or exhaust surfaces and ignite.
