Two of the recalls specifically affect 4Matic variants and center on wiring problems. In those vehicles, the transmission wiring harness runs too close to the driveshaft and can be worn through by contact, cutting power to the drivetrain while the car is moving. A separate issue on the same trims involves ground connections for the 12-volt and 48-volt wiring harness that may not be properly secured, causing those connections to overheat and raising the risk of a fire. A third electrical recall covers a broader range of Mercedes-Benz models and involves 80-amp fuses that can fail unexpectedly, potentially killing drive power or disabling critical systems like the airbags and instrument cluster mid-drive. On the software side, a bug in the infotainment system can quietly deactivate certain vehicle functions, including the automatic emergency braking feature that applies the brakes during cross-traffic situations, leaving the car without that protection without any obvious indication to the driver.
