The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G Class has 6 recalls, the most serious being front door wiring that can wear through from repeated opening and closing, potentially disabling the airbags, automatic door unlocking in a crash, and emergency location services.
Two recalls address the electronic stability and anti-lock brake systems: on certain vehicles, wiring along the front axle can be damaged by contact with the auxiliary oil cooler, causing both systems to cut out and reducing the driver's ability to maintain control on slippery or uneven roads. On the structural side, rear door locks may not latch securely and a door can swing open while driving; separately, forcing a rear door when the child safety lock is active can damage the lock mechanism, trapping occupants inside. A lower-severity recall covers an incorrect symbol printed next to the rear door child safety lock switch, which can lead to the lock being set backwards, either leaving a child able to open the door from inside while the vehicle is moving or preventing any rear passenger from opening the door even when it should be unlocked.
