Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 has 13 recalls spanning the 2014 through 2026 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a 2019 engine compartment fuse box that can loosen over time, potentially cutting power to the engine, power steering, electronic stability control, and automatic emergency braking simultaneously.
The 2026 model year has a door latch recall where a misrouted cable can prevent the door from opening from inside, potentially trapping occupants. On 2021 models, the front passenger airbag ground connection may not be properly mounted, which can cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly and injure the front seat passenger. Also on 2021 models, rear brake caliper fasteners can be loose, reducing braking performance or allowing brake components to detach and become road debris. A separate 2019 issue involves the automatic transmission control unit losing power while driving, causing the transmission to drop into neutral and cutting drive power without warning.
The 2018-2019 model years carry several recalls. Sunroof bonding can allow water to leak in and corrode the side window airbag electrical contacts, preventing those airbags from deploying in a crash. The rear center seatbelt anchor plate can be loose, meaning that belt may not hold its occupant in a crash. There are also two child seat anchor issues on these years: a covering installed over the rear center top tether point can block access to it, and on some 2018 vehicles the tether anchor hardware may be missing entirely, leaving no secure mount for a forward-facing child seat in the center rear position.
The 2017-2018 steering shaft recall covers a universal joint bearing that can work loose over time and eventually separate, leaving the driver with no steering input. Going back further, certain 2015 models have camshaft welds that can fail, causing internal engine damage and a stall. The 2014-2020 range is subject to a roof panel bonding issue specific to vehicles that had prior repair work on the front roof panel between the windshield and sunroof; if that panel was not re-bonded correctly, it can detach at speed and become a hazard. The 2018 GLA 250 4Matic also has a headlight alignment recall where low beams may fall below the required illumination range, reducing visibility at night.
