The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has 5 recalls, the most serious involving three separate issues that can cut engine or drive power without warning: a transmission software fault that can stall the engine, a fuel pump that can shut down and leave the vehicle without propulsion, and a loose 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat that can overheat and start a fire.

The transmission recall involves software that may fail to complete a downshift in certain conditions, causing the engine to stall while driving. The fuel pump issue is a separate mechanical concern where the pump can stop delivering fuel entirely, resulting in sudden loss of drive power with no ability to accelerate or maintain speed. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the fuel pump issue, which is why it appears across more than one campaign. The electrical concern involves a 48-volt ground connection beneath the passenger seat that may not be properly secured; if it overheats, it can ignite surrounding materials and create a fire inside the cabin. On the body side, the rear door window trim bars can detach while the vehicle is moving and fall into the road, creating a hazard for other drivers and pedestrians behind the vehicle.
