Summary
The Mitsubishi Endeavor has 20 recalls covering 2004 through 2010, with the most serious being a fuel filler pipe corrosion issue on 2004-2010 vehicles registered in salt-belt states where trapped road salt can eat through the pipe and cause fuel to leak during refueling, creating a fire risk if an ignition source is present.
The 2010 model year has one additional recall: seat-mounted side airbags on both the driver and passenger sides may not deploy correctly in a side impact crash due to improperly welded retainer brackets. The remaining recalls cluster heavily around the 2004 and 2005 model years.
On 2005 models, the front brake calipers can fracture due to brittle metal, causing a partial loss of braking force. There is also a brake master cylinder issue on 2005 vehicles with anti-lock brakes where fluid can bypass internally during a stop, lengthening stopping distances. A separate fuel tank mounting strap bracket on some 2005 vehicles can fail and allow the fuel tank to loosen, again raising the risk of a fuel leak and fire.
The 2006 model year has two occupant restraint recalls: the passenger-side front seatbelt anchor can pull free in a crash, leaving the passenger unrestrained, and the HVAC controller on 2006-2008 models with manual air conditioning can send incorrect signals that randomly redirect airflow or briefly cycle temperatures, which can degrade windshield defogging and reduce visibility.
On 2004 models, the driver's seat bracket can crack at its base and detach in a crash. The parking brake pedal cable lock nut may loosen and fall off, reducing the parking brake's ability to hold the vehicle on a slope. The ignition key interlock on 2004-2006 vehicles can allow the key to be removed before the transmission is shifted into park, potentially allowing rollaway. A propeller shaft issue specific to 2004 models involves retaining bolts that may be loose or missing, which can interrupt drive to the rear wheels or cause the driveshaft to drop and contact the road surface.
