The 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor has 10 recalls, the most serious involving fuel leakage from a corroding filler pipe that, near an ignition source, can cause a fire, and a driveshaft that can drop onto the road if its retaining bolts loosen and fall out.
The fuel filler pipe corrosion and driveshaft bolt issues are the most urgent concerns. On the driveshaft, loose or missing bolts can cut power to the rear wheels or, in the worst case, send the shaft onto the roadway and cause a crash. The fuel leak risk is tied to road salt buildup between the pipe and its bracket, and is most relevant to vehicles driven in northern and mid-Atlantic states.
Two separate issues can allow the vehicle to roll when parked: the parking brake cable lock nut can loosen and fall off, reducing braking force on a slope, and a faulty ignition key interlock can let the driver remove the key before the transmission is in Park, leaving no mechanical hold on the vehicle. The driver's seat bracket can also crack at its base, weakening the seat's attachment to the floor so it may break free in a crash. There is also a concern with the ignition interlock cable allowing the key to be removed outside of Park, raising rollaway risk if the parking brake is not separately engaged.
