The master cylinder issue, which only affects vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes, causes fluid to route around the internal seals during a stop, meaning the pedal may still move but the brakes respond less forcefully than expected. Both conditions raise the risk of a crash.
There are also two fuel-related recalls tied to fire risk. One involves a fuel tank mounting bracket that may not hold the tank's left rear strap securely, allowing the tank to shift and potentially leak fuel. The other covers corrosion of the fuel filler pipe and applies only to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in certain northeastern, midwestern, and mid-Atlantic states where road salt is common; a corroded filler pipe can crack and leak fuel at the fill point. In either case, fuel near a heat or ignition source can result in a fire.
