What can fail
Wires running through the rear doors can break from repeated opening and closing. These wires control seatbelt pretensioners, a front passenger seatbelt sensor, and rear speakers. If pretensioner and speaker wires break and touch, the pretensioner may deploy unexpectedly, making the seatbelt unusable. If the sensor wires break, the front passenger airbag won't deploy in a crash.
What the fix does
Dealers will inspect vehicles showing seatbelt malfunctions, rear speaker problems, or an illuminated SRS warning light. If the rear door wiring is faulty, the dealer will replace the wiring harness.
