The 2009 Nissan Versa has 7 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag defect where both the driver and front passenger airbag inflators can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
All six airbag recalls trace to the same underlying problem: airbag inflators that degrade over time, particularly in high-humidity and high-temperature environments. When these inflators rupture, they can scatter sharp metal fragments toward the driver and passengers rather than deploying safely. Some of these recalls specifically apply to vehicles registered in high-humidity states and territories such as Florida, Hawaii, Texas, and Puerto Rico, though others cover the vehicle more broadly regardless of where it was registered. Prior repair attempts have not fully resolved this issue across all affected vehicles, which is why multiple campaigns remain open.
The remaining recall involves the front coil springs, which can fracture and contact the tire. A punctured tire in this scenario raises the risk of losing control of the vehicle.
