The 1997 Porsche Boxster has 4 recalls, the most serious affecting Tiptronic automatic transmission models: a misadjusted key-lock cable can allow the shifter to move out of park without the parking brake engaged, leaving the vehicle free to roll.

A separate Tiptronic concern involves the bearing sleeves inside the shift selector mechanism seizing up, which makes the selector progressively harder to move and can eventually prevent shifting altogether. The remaining two recalls both trace back to the ignition switch housing, which can crack and cause a range of electrical failures including headlights, windshield wipers, air conditioning, and the heater blower. The key can also stick in the ignition as a result of the same cracking.
