2018 RAM 1500 Recalls — Canada & USA

Recalls 1 and 8 describe the same underlying driveshaft weld defect. Recalls 5 and 7 describe the same rear axle underfill defect. I'll treat each pair as a single issue. The 2018 RAM 1500 has 9 recalls, the most serious involving a side curtain airbag inflator that can rupture without warning and send metal fragments into the cabin toward occupants. Three recalls only affect trucks with the 3.0L EcoD diesel engine. A cracked EGR cooler can allow vaporized coolant into the intake manifold where it may ignite, raising the risk of an engine fire. A failing crankshaft position sensor component can cause the engine to stall without warning, and a high-pressure fuel pump can shed debris into the fuel system and cut power while driving. On the drivetrain side, the rear driveshaft on certain 4x4 trucks may have an incomplete weld that causes it to crack, detach, and become a road hazard or leave the truck without drive power. The rear differential on some trucks was not properly filled with oil, which can cause it to fail, lock the rear wheels, or cut drive power entirely. There is also an instrument cluster recall covering certain trucks where the gauge cluster stops working, leaving the driver without speed, fuel, or warning light information.
