Summary
The RAM ProMaster has 55 recalls spanning 2014 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2018-2026 models where the radiator fan's electrical circuit can overheat, creating a risk of fire in the engine compartment.
The 2024-2025 battery electric versions have their own drive power concern: the electric drive module software can fail to manage torque correctly, causing a sudden loss of power while driving. Related software issues on 2024 BEV models can also damage the differential housing and cut drive power without warning. On 2022-2025 models, a software error in the security gateway module can prevent the rearview camera from displaying when backing up. The 2022-2023 models have a seat belt warning chime and indicator light that may not activate when the driver is unbelted. The 2021-2024 models may be missing a structural side door beam, which reduces occupant protection in a side impact. On 2021 models, the electronic stability control can become inoperative due to a loose ground connection, and the rear seat belt retractors may release early and fail to hold a child seat securely. A park pawl defect on 2019-2021 models with the 62TE transmission can prevent the transmission from fully locking in park, allowing the vehicle to roll away.
Going back further, 2017 models have a seat-mounted side airbag igniter that can fail to fire in a crash, leaving the airbag undeployed. On 2016-2018 models with air conditioning, the engine cooling fan can seize and overheat the fan motor, raising the risk of fire. The 2016 diesel-equipped models have an anti-lock brake module that may have been programmed incorrectly, and the electronic stability control system may not reactivate automatically on restart. The 2015-2018 A/C cooling fan fire risk described above extends through this era as well. The 2015 ignition switch can lose electrical contact intermittently, which can stall the engine and simultaneously disable the airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. A wiring harness connector near the driver seat floor on 2015-2016 models can corrode from water intrusion, causing the transmission to slip into neutral and preventing the engine from restarting.
On 2014-2019 models with the 3.6L engine, the transmission shifter cable can separate from the transmission, leaving the gear selector position mismatched with the actual gear engaged and allowing unintended vehicle movement. The 2014 models have three separate issues: a brake hose that can be damaged during assembly and leak fluid, reducing braking; an accelerator pedal that can stick at wide-open throttle if pressed at an angle; and water intrusion around the floor battery cover that can corrode electrical circuits, disabling airbags, taillamps, and turn signals.
Several lower-severity concerns round out the history. On 2021 and 2015 models, side curtain airbags can fail to deploy correctly in a crash due to installation defects. The 2019 and 2022-2023 models each have rearview camera software issues that can black out the image while reversing. Left taillight and turn signal failures affect 2021-2022 models through a wiring connection problem. On 2014-2017 models, sun visor labels and owner's materials incorrectly describe the airbags as advanced airbags, which can cause occupants to position themselves incorrectly relative to the bags.
