The electric drive module software recall applies only to battery electric variants of the ProMaster. The software can fail to manage torque correctly, causing the van to lose drive power unexpectedly while in motion. On the combustion side, the radiator fan's electrical circuit can overheat, creating a fire risk under the hood. There is also a concern for vehicles equipped with Rollx QRT-Deluxe or QRT-Max wheelchair restraints: the restraint anchor system can fail to secure a wheelchair properly, allowing it to shift or move while the vehicle is in motion and raising the risk of injury to the occupant. Finally, a software error in the security gateway module can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing on the display when reversing, leaving the driver without a clear view of what is directly behind the van.
