Summary
The RAM ProMaster City has 11 recalls across the 2015–2021 model years, with the most serious being a defect in the rack and pinion steering gear on 2018 models where a crack in the housing can leak hydraulic fluid and cause a sudden, significant increase in steering effort.
On 2020–2021 models, the anti-lock brake module can develop internal damage that reduces braking performance and disables automatic emergency braking without any warning to the driver. The 2019–2021 model years share a turn signal issue where a burned-out bulb will not cause the dashboard indicator to flash faster, leaving the driver unaware that the signal is not working and other drivers unable to anticipate the vehicle's intentions. The 2017 model year has a single-vehicle recall where the side curtain airbags may not fully inflate in a crash, reducing occupant protection. Going back to 2015–2017 models, the tire information placard may carry incorrect data for vehicle weight capacity, occupant count, or tire pressure, which can lead to overloading or improper tire inflation and affect handling. The 2018 model year has a separate placard issue where the listed seating capacity may be wrong, also raising the risk of overloading. On 2015 models equipped with an optional trailer tow lighting control module, a software error can cause the trailer brake lights to stop working after the first brake application, making the trailer invisible to following traffic during braking.
