2010 Ram 4500

The 2010 RAM 4500 has 6 recalls, the most serious being multiple Takata airbag inflator defects affecting both the driver and passenger frontal airbags, where an inflator can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

The airbag concerns cover both seating positions. On the passenger side, the frontal airbag inflator can rupture under excessive internal pressure during a crash, scattering metal fragments toward anyone in the front of the vehicle. The driver-side inflator carries the same risk: a crash-triggered deployment can cause the inflator to burst and throw shrapnel toward the driver. These are part of the broader Takata airbag recall that affected millions of vehicles across the industry, and prior repair attempts may not have fully resolved the issue for all affected vehicles.

On the electrical side, the 220-amp alternator fitted to certain trucks can fail suddenly, which can cause the engine to stall without warning while driving. Beyond the stall risk, a failing alternator can also short-circuit and start a fire.

There is also a brake concern specific to vehicles with a diesel engine and a hydroboost brake system, which draws on power steering pressure to assist the brakes. On those trucks, the power steering reservoir cap can build up excessive pressure and slow the brake pedal's return after being pressed, meaning the pedal may not spring back normally and the brakes may remain partially applied.
