The 2010 RAM 5500 has 7 recalls, the most serious being airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can explode during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, with risk of serious injury or death.
The airbag concern spans multiple filings but reflects the same underlying problem: Takata-style inflators that can rupture under excessive pressure, and some of these recalls specifically apply to vehicles registered in high-humidity states and territories where the risk is elevated. On the steering side, the left tie rod assembly can break, causing sudden and complete loss of steering control. The electrical system carries two separate hazards: the 220-amp alternator can fail without warning and stall the vehicle, or it can short circuit and start a fire. Rounding out the list, the diesel fuel heater's electrical connectors can overheat and allow fuel to leak, also raising the risk of a fire.
