The 2022 RAM 5500 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from an electrical short in the heater grid relay that can ignite an engine compartment fire whether the ignition is on or off.
All four recalls apply to trucks equipped with the Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engine, with the exception of the steering concern. On the engine side, the control module may contain a misaligned internal component that causes it to lose communication with the rest of the drivetrain, cutting drive power without warning and leaving the truck unable to accelerate. The steering column control module on certain vehicles can interfere with the driver's side airbag, preventing it from deploying in a crash and leaving the driver without that layer of protection at the moment it is needed most.
