The 2023 RAM 5500 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving a heater grid relay in the diesel engine that can short-circuit and start an engine compartment fire, even with the ignition off. This recall covers vehicles equipped with the Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine. On the safety equipment side, the clockspring unit behind the steering wheel can fail, preventing the driver's airbag from deploying in a crash. There is also a steering column control module that can mix up its signals, causing the high beams to switch on when the turn signal is activated, or the turn signals to flash when the high beams are engaged, which can confuse other drivers and reduce the information available to them on the road.
