The 2024 Tesla Model S has 6 recalls, the most serious being a hood latch that can fail to detect an unlatched hood, allowing it to fly open while driving and blocking the driver's view.
Three recalls involve the airbag and steering system. The driver's airbag cushion can tear during deployment, leaving the driver without adequate protection in a crash. On vehicles where the steering yoke or wheel was replaced, an incompatible airbag may have been installed that deploys incorrectly in a crash. There is also the possibility that an airbag with the wrong horn pad was installed, which can prevent the horn from sounding at all. On the visibility side, a short in the rearview camera circuit board can cause the backup camera image to go blank, reducing what the driver can see when reversing. Rounding out the list, the seatbelt warning light and chime may not activate when the driver is unbuckled, removing a reminder that could prompt the driver to buckle up before a crash occurs.
