The 2007 Toyota Corolla has 6 recalls, the most serious being a passenger-side airbag inflator that can rupture in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Three of the recalls address this airbag inflator issue from different angles. One specifically covers vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity regions including Florida, Gulf Coast states, Hawaii, and U.S. territories, where moisture accelerates the problem. A separate recall covers replacement inflators installed under prior repair work, where the new airbag may not unfold correctly at high temperatures, leaving an occupant without proper protection in a crash.
On the mechanical side, certain two-wheel-drive models with the 1ZZ-FE engine have an engine control module where the circuit board can develop cracks, leading to a range of engine warning lights and performance issues. There is also a fire risk for vehicles fitted with aftermarket heated front seats: the copper heating element in those seats can short circuit and ignite.
