The 2023 Toyota Corolla has 5 recalls, the most serious involving a cracked steering intermediate shaft that can detach from the steering column and cause a complete loss of steering control.
The driver's front airbag accounts for two related recalls: the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel can disconnect, disabling the airbag in a crash and potentially knocking out the horn and other steering wheel controls as well. A prior repair attempt for this issue did not fully resolve the problem for some vehicles, leaving the airbag deactivated. On the braking side, a software error in the skid control computer can cut power brake assist while cornering, which extends stopping distances. The brake assist recall applies specifically to Corolla Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid models.
