There is also a fire risk tied to aftermarket heated seats. On vehicles equipped with certain aftermarket seat heater kits distributed through Southeast Toyota, the copper heating element inside the seat cushion can short circuit if the wiring is damaged, potentially igniting the seat material. This recall covers a wide range of model years and applies only to vehicles that received these specific aftermarket heater installations, not factory-equipped heated seats.
