The 2006 Toyota Sienna has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the shift lever moving out of Park without the brake pedal pressed, which can cause the vehicle to roll away or back over someone unexpectedly.
A related transmission recall covers the same risk through a fault in the shift lock assembly, where the lever can slip out of Park if the parking brake is not applied. These two issues together mean the vehicle may move unintentionally when left unattended. On the structural side, the cable that holds the spare tire under the vehicle can corrode from road salt exposure and snap, sending the spare tire loose onto the road and into traffic behind the vehicle. This concern applies to vehicles in salt-belt states and is addressed in two separate filings covering overlapping model years. There is also a fire risk for vehicles sold through Southeast Toyota Distributors that were fitted with aftermarket heated seats: the copper heating element inside the seat can short circuit and ignite.
