2020 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS Recalls — Canada & USA

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas has 6 recalls, the most serious involving a blocked air conditioning drain tube that can let water reach the airbag control module, potentially causing an airbag to deploy without warning. A separate structural concern involves steering knuckles that may have been damaged during production and can fail, causing a complete loss of steering. On the airbag sensor side, a wiring fault in the front passenger occupant detection system can mistakenly deactivate the passenger airbag while the seat is occupied, leaving that occupant without airbag protection in a crash. There is also a concern that incorrect side impact airbags may have been installed on certain vehicles, which can prevent proper deployment in a side collision. Rounding out the list, vehicles equipped with accessory side steps may be missing a weight rating label that accounts for the added load, which can lead to unknowing overloading and reduced vehicle control.
