The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the driver's frontal airbag inflator, which can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

The remaining two recalls cover braking and rollaway risks. On the brake side, the caliper pistons may have inadequate coating that causes them to corrode or seize, reducing how much stopping force the brakes can generate and increasing the chance of a collision. The third recall affects vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, manual handbrake, and keyless entry: a fault in the anti-theft control module can allow the driver to remove the key while the transmission is not in Park, removing the electronic interlock that normally prevents the car from rolling away and raising the risk of an unattended rollaway or crash.
