1993 Volkswagen Eurovan

The 1993 Volkswagen Eurovan has 4 recalls, the most serious being a steering defect where a bolt in the steering column's universal joint can work loose over time and cause the steering system to stop responding entirely.

Fuel system concerns account for two of the remaining recalls, and because they describe the same underlying problem, they count as one issue: the fuel feed and return hoses in the engine compartment can settle over time, causing their fastening clamps to lose their grip and allow fuel to seep out at the connection points. If that leaked fuel contacts a hot surface or ignition source, it can result in an engine compartment fire. On the brake side, the parking brake handle contains a torsion spring that keeps the locking mechanism engaged when the brake is set. Some of these springs were not installed correctly, which means the parking brake can release on its own. If the vehicle is left on any kind of slope without additional precautions, it can roll away.
