The 2022 Volkswagen GTI has 10 recalls, the most serious involving two separate fire risks: a radiator that may not be properly secured can damage a coolant hose and cause the engine to overheat, and a loose engine cover can contact hot surfaces and melt.
The remaining recalls cluster around two themes. On the visibility side, a software error can cause the rearview camera to display a delayed image or nothing at all when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, reducing the driver's view of what is behind the car. The sunroof's touch switch can be overly sensitive, causing the sunroof to close on its own without the driver intending it to, which raises the risk of injury to an occupant or object in the opening.
