The 2023 Volkswagen GTI has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the front suspension strut mount, which can loosen and cause steering instability, and a radiator attachment problem that can damage a coolant hose, leading to engine overheating and a potential fire risk.
The remaining three recalls all concern the rearview camera. In one case, the camera image can appear blank or completely unresponsive when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. In another, a software error can delay or deactivate the image so it does not appear when expected. A third filing covers a similar software-related delay or deactivation after shifting into reverse. Taken together, these issues mean the screen behind you may show nothing at all, or may take long enough to load that you are already moving before you can see what is there. All three camera recalls address the same real-world consequence: reduced rear visibility while backing up, raising the risk of a collision with a person or object behind the vehicle.
