The 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the driver's frontal airbag, which may fail to deploy correctly in a crash or lose its electrical connection entirely, leaving the driver without airbag protection.
Two separate issues affect the driver's airbag: the airbag module itself may not deploy properly, and debris can contaminate the clock spring, the coiled cable that keeps the airbag powered while the steering wheel turns, cutting the electrical connection. On the fuel side, winterized fuel can cause air bubbles to form in the fuel system, potentially stalling the engine while driving. There is also a compliance recall covering certain vehicles that were part of an internal evaluation period, where undisclosed modifications may cause the vehicle to fall short of regulatory requirements.
