The 2011 Volkswagen Touareg has 5 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk on hybrid models where water can pool in the high-voltage battery tray, cause an electrical short, and ignite.
On the brake side, a securing clip may be missing from the brake pedal pivot pin, allowing the pin to shift out of position. Over time this can cause the pedal to wobble and eventually fracture, or in some cases dislodge entirely, leaving the driver unable to apply the brakes. Two separate recalls cover this same underlying brake pedal defect. Hybrid models carry two additional recalls: the tire pressure information printed on the certification label may be incorrect, which can lead to improper inflation and premature tire wear. There is also a broader compliance recall covering certain vehicles that went through an internal evaluation period and may not fully meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
