The 2013 Volkswagen Touareg has 3 recalls, the most serious being two safety-critical issues: a brake pedal that can dislodge and leave the driver unable to stop the car, and a high-voltage battery that can short-circuit and catch fire on hybrid models.
On the brake side, a securing clip may be missing from the brake pedal pivot pin, allowing the pin to shift and the pedal to come free. On hybrid trims, the battery tray may not drain water properly, letting moisture collect until it causes an electrical short in the high-voltage battery pack. The third recall covers certain vehicles that may have been modified during an internal evaluation period and may not fully meet regulatory requirements, which could raise the risk of a crash, fire, or injury.
