The 1975 Volvo 200 Series has 7 recalls, the most serious involving steering and suspension failures that can cause the front suspension to collapse or the driver to lose steering control entirely.
Multiple steering concerns are present: ball joint bolts can work loose and bring down the front suspension, fasteners holding the steering rack to the subframe can loosen and allow the steering to wander or fail, and the steering shaft nut can loosen as well. On the engine side, the throttle cable sleeve can crack and the cable itself can fray, both of which can leave the throttle stuck wide open and cause the engine to race uncontrollably. There are also two fuel system concerns: pressure can build up in the fuel tank and send fuel surging out of the filler neck when the cap is removed, and some tanks may seep fuel from the drain plug area. A separate fuel issue involves gasoline fumes leaking from the breather pipe inside the filler neck into the trunk, where they can accumulate. Rounding out the list, vacuum hoses in the exhaust gas recirculation system can split and leave that emissions valve inoperative.
