19 recalls across 15 model years
The Volvo V60 has 19 recalls spanning 2011 through 2025, with the most serious being a high-voltage battery short circuit on 2020-2022 plug-in hybrid models that can occur while the vehicle is parked and fully charged, raising the risk of fire.
On 2023-2025 models, the rearview camera can fail to display an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, reducing visibility behind the car. Also on 2023 models, a diagnostic error in the brake control module can disable anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control simultaneously. The 2022-2023 model years have an engine control module software error that can prevent the combustion engine from starting on plug-in hybrid variants, and as the high-voltage battery drains, the vehicle can lose drive power entirely.
The 2021 model year has two occupant protection issues: the airbag and restraint system control unit may not be properly secured to the body and can detach in a crash, reducing airbag, seatbelt, and high-voltage battery disconnect performance; and the rear seatbelt automatic locking retractors can deactivate early, preventing a child safety seat from being secured properly. This retractor issue also extends into 2022 models. On 2019-2020 vehicles, the automatic emergency braking system can fail to detect obstacles and engage, and a fuel pump fuse can blow and cause the engine to stall while driving.
Going back to 2016-2017 models, the front passenger seatbelt buckle stud can loosen and allow the buckle to separate from its bracket, leaving the passenger unrestrained in a crash. The 2017 model year has a separate issue where side airbag inflator initiators can fail to ignite in a crash, preventing those airbags from deploying. The 2016 model year has a starter motor fuse that can blow when the automatic stop/start function is active, leaving the engine unable to restart in traffic.
The 2011-2018 model years have a front seatbelt recall covering a restraint that may not adequately secure an occupant in a crash. On 2011-2017 models, a component inside the door latches can break, making a door appear closed when it is not, and that door can swing open while driving. The 2017-2019 model years have a vehicle connectivity module software error that can prevent accurate GPS location from being transmitted to emergency services after a crash. On 2017-2019 vehicles, the same fuel pump fuse issue noted on 2019-2020 models applies, where a blown fuse can stall the engine.
