The 2002 Volvo VNL has 5 recalls, the most serious being a steering drag link that can separate at the ball socket and cause complete, sudden loss of steering control.
Two recalls address fire risk. Water can enter the chassis-mounted electrical inverter through the wiring harness, causing an electrical short that can ignite a fire. There is a separate fire concern in trucks with a sleeper bunk: if an object is left on the bunk when it is raised into its stored position, it can press against the bunk lamp, restricting airflow and causing the lamp and object to smoke or smolder. On the structural side, the upper side window glass in the sleeper section can separate from its slide track, sending glass into the path of oncoming traffic or bystanders.
