The 2003 Volvo VNL has 3 recalls, the most serious being a steering drag link where a ball socket can separate and cause complete loss of steering control, leading to a crash.
On sleeper cab models, the upper side window glass can de-bond from its sliding track mechanism. If the window is open when this happens, the glass can fall free and become a hazard to oncoming traffic or anyone nearby. There is also a front suspension concern: as the front tires wear, a wheel wobble can develop, and if left unaddressed, the persistent shaking can damage suspension components to the point where controlling the truck becomes difficult.
