The 2024 Volvo VNL has 8 recalls, the most serious being four separate steering defects where connections in the steering linkage can loosen, fracture, or separate entirely, causing sudden and complete loss of steering control.
The four steering issues cover different points in the system: a wheel end hub assembly that can leak oil and cause the axle spindle to loosen or fracture, a fastener between the pitman arm and drag link that can work loose and fail, gear teeth in the steering gear shaft that can crack and break, and a castle nut on the steering arm that can back off and separate from the drag link. On the electronics side, a software error can leave the electronic stability control inoperative, reducing the truck's ability to recover from a skid. The airbag recall affects vehicles equipped with RollTek driver seats, where a missing circuit prevents the side curtain airbag from deploying in a crash. Two lower-severity issues round out the list: hub covers that do not fit securely and can detach and become road debris, and windshield wiper motor gears that wear out prematurely and leave the driver without wipers in wet conditions.
