The 2012 Volvo VNM has 3 recalls, with the most serious being a fifth wheel locking mechanism that can fail to engage, allowing a loaded trailer to detach from the tractor while underway.
The fifth wheel concern involves cumulative wear to the locking mechanism on certain Fontaine Ultra LT connectors, which can leave the trailer connection unsecured. There are also two fire-related concerns on this truck. The trailer hand brake handle can stick in the applied position due to contact with the trim panel cutout, causing the trailer's service brakes to drag, overheat the wheel end, and potentially start a fire or blow a tire. On the engine side, excessive crankcase pressure can push the vent tube's elbow fitting off the breather, letting engine oil escape onto hot surfaces and raising the risk of an engine fire.
