The 2012 Volvo VNM has 3 recalls, the most serious being a fifth wheel locking mechanism that can fail to hold a trailer, allowing it to detach from the tractor while underway.
Two of the remaining recalls involve fire risk. Engine crankcase pressure can force a vent tube elbow loose from the crankcase ventilation breather, letting engine oil spray onto hot engine surfaces where it can ignite. On the braking side, the trailer hand brake handle can stick in the applied position because the surrounding trim panel cutout restricts its travel back to the off position. When that happens, the trailer service brakes drag continuously, overheating the wheel ends to the point where a fire or tire blowout becomes possible.
