The 2019 Volvo XC40 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a brake pedal that may not have been properly fastened and can shift out of position, reducing braking performance and raising the risk of a crash.
Two other recalls address safety-critical systems. A software and hardware incompatibility can prevent the automatic emergency braking system from detecting obstacles and engaging when it should, removing a key layer of crash prevention. Separately, certain vehicles may be missing the rear seatback lock strikers entirely, allowing the rear seatbacks to fold forward during hard braking or a crash and increasing the risk of injury to rear passengers. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, which is why it appears across more than one filing. Finally, a software error in the vehicle connectivity module can cause the telematics system to report incorrect GPS coordinates to emergency services, potentially slowing response time if the vehicle is in a crash.
