The 2023 Volvo XC40 has 5 recalls, the most serious involving a fault in the brake control module that can reduce braking performance and disable safety systems including ABS, stability control, traction control, and adaptive cruise control.
A related brake control module issue can also trigger a diagnostic error that shuts down ABS, electronic stability control, and traction control without warning. On the electrical side, a false warning message reading "e-Call Service Required" can appear in the driver display even when nothing is wrong, which risks masking a real failure in the emergency call system and delaying response after a crash. The rearview camera can also fail to display an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, reducing the driver's ability to see what is directly behind the vehicle.
