The 2023 Volvo XC60 has 6 recalls, the most serious involving a software error in the engine control module that can prevent the combustion engine from starting and cause the vehicle to lose drive power as the battery drains.

On the braking side, a diagnostic error in the brake control module can disable anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control all at once, removing the electronic safety net that helps maintain control during hard stops or slippery conditions. There is also a front seat concern: loose seat bolts may not hold the seat securely in a crash, reducing how well the occupant is restrained. The rearview camera can fail to display an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, leaving the driver with a blank screen and no view of what is behind the vehicle. Finally, a false diagnostic code can trigger a persistent "e-Call Service Required" warning on the dashboard, which can mask a real failure in the emergency call system and delay help reaching the vehicle after a crash.
